Team#13 is directed by Dr. Sumiko Kimura and Dr. Takeshi Endo at Chiba University. Chiba University consists of nine faculties with 1,250 teaching staffs, library, hospital and other educational and research facilities. With 11,200 students in the undergraduate program, Chiba is one of the largest universities in Japan. The SarcoSi participating Department of Biology is part of the Graduate school of Science and also of the Graduate school of Advanced Integration of Science. Within this department, Drs. Kimura and Endo have made critical progress to unravel the physiological functions of the titin and nebulin filaments. These insights from basic research now in turn are increasingly helpful to guide the research ongoing in the clinical research teams in SarcoSi.
